KENSINGTON STREET LIGHTING PROJECT COMPLETE
(9/22/2006) NEW HAVEN – A night-time lighting project designed to make the Kensington Street area less desirable to potential criminals has been completed.
For approximately five months, Lieutenant Ray Hassett, district manager of the Dwight/Chapel neighborhood, has been working with the United Illuminating Company and property owners in the area to increase the lighting. On Wednesday, 27 September, at 8 p.m., the results of their efforts will be on display on Kensington Street at Edgewood Avenue.
Other areas that have been affected by this project include Garden Street, Winthrop Avenue and Chapel Street, Chapel and Norton streets and 730 George Street.
“There has definitely been a positive impact on the neighborhood as a result of the increased lighting,” said Lieutenant Hassett. Hassett intends to continue the project throughout the district.
